How’s it going? Are you still close, seeing each other often? Or not as much as you like? \n

\n

\n

Several well known speakers and gurus have said we should date our kids. We should date our partners. This way, love becomes an active participation.\n You get to know your children, they open up to you. You and your partner can talk and flirt and bond outside your duties to your family and each\n other.

\n

\n

You could even date your employees! A group lunch now and then. It boosts morale and camaraderie. People are more loyal and more hardworking when they\n work with those they like. It’s human nature.

\n

\n

If you’re the employee, think about it. Does your employer or immediate supervisor make it a point to chat with you or insert some humor when you talk\n about work? You like them, don’t you? The most popular bosses are those who balance compassion and companionship with professionalism.

\n

\n

We all have an instinctive preference for that. It’s our soul and mind turning toward balance. Work balanced by fun. The coldness of business offset\n by the warmth of friendship. Stress cured by love from family, a friend or a pet.

\n

\n

It should be the same between you and your mat. All the week’s toil balanced with calm and rest. All tension released. You achieve realignment and\n centeredness.

\n

\n

Set aside a time each day for your mat. It’s a date with your soul. Give it the same importance as setting aside time for your family and friends.\n

\n

Too much to do? There are tricks to making time for yoga.

\n

\n

Unroll your mat beside your bed, or any other spot in your bedroom This way, you can do a couple of poses before you turn in and after waking up. It’s\n still yoga whether it lasted 5 minutes or 50.

\n

\n

Wear your yoga pants to bed. They’re comfortable! You’re dressed for yoga, might as well do yoga-- before bed, or after waking up in the morning. If\n the cold makes you want to stay in bed until you absolutely have to hit the shower, wear socks and long sleeves.

\n

\n

Who says you have to be barefoot and bare-armed anyway? Don’t sweat it. Well, you would sweat! You’d soon be warm enough to ditch the socks and do\n yoga safely on bare feet!

\n

\n

Tell yourself this when self-love insists you deserve more snooze time: You ARE expressing self-love by getting up and doing yoga.

\n

\n

Set up your yoga spot. Buy a mat or two in your favorite colors or prints. Shop for scented candles. Light your favorites ONLY for yoga. Associate\n aroma therapy with therapy for yourself--body and soul.

\n

\n

Find the yoga positions you can easily do at work. If you have an office to yourself, great. If you have a comfortably carpeted bathroom, great. Bring\n your mat. Do the child’s pose. It soothes your lower back, a common stress area, and stretches your hips and quads. It feels good to just curl\n up and rest your head, doesn’t it?

\n

\n

And you’re ready to face the world again, with love, with friendship. Realigning yourself takes away the growl and irritating hum of everyday work.\n It gives you back peace.

\n

\n

And when you’re inwardly peaceful, you are more focused, and kind to yourself and those around you.

\n

\n

People do yoga for wellness: to relax, to get fit, to achieve balance. But you know what’s weird? More of them don’t actually get around to it. For every yoga nutter among your friends who can’t shut up about it and has roped you into it, there’s about two to ten who are also “interested” but haven’t done much beyond being interested.

\n

\n

They research about yoga types, yoga mats, yoga pants, yoga pads, yoga food, yoga centers. And they get\n stuck in research. They do some moves when their back gets sore. The pose helps them and their interest grows. And that’s it.

\n

“The timing isn’t right. So much else to do.”

\n

“Can’t go to yoga class because I’m watching the kids.”

\n

“I’m too fat and I might injure someone when I fall!”

\n

“It costs money.”

\n

“I’m busy with work.”

\n

“Maybe later” when this or that is done. Always maybe later.

\n

Before you started, were any of this true for you, or for someone you know? And how many other things do you put off? Sure, yoga can wait, and there’s\n no urgency to buy a yoga mat. But what about something else dearer to your heart and mind? Writing a short story or even a novel? Starting your own\n business? Going to Norway to witness the Northern Lights? Redecorating your apartment? \n
\n

\n

\n

Friends and family affirm our wants and desires. They tell us, “Go ahead!” “You can do it!” Many people need to be told to do something or go, but some\n of them are unlucky enough in their environments that they get no encouragement, no push, no boost to their confidence and morale.

\n

\n

If this is you, or someone you know, you can STOP waiting. Stop looking for answers. Stop trying to wait for the day when everything is just perfect, when\n there’s enough money in the bank or when you’re a certain size, when the kids are bigger, or you have the boyfriend, handbag, house, new car, baby\n you wanted...STOP.

\n

Everything you need to start, you already have.

\n

“Talent is a pursued interest. In other words, anything that you’re willing to practice, you can do.” \n
\n

\n

Can you just hear Bob Ross softly reassuring you that? And another one, this one quite an eye-opener:“It’s so important to do something every day that\n will make you happy.”

\n

\n

So often and for so many, people just slog through the weekdays and then sleep through the weekends. They’re earning money. But they’re not happy.

\n

\n

A friend told me that when she spreads her yoga mat, it’s like a switch in her brain flicks and her mind is suddenly soundproof, with a different ambient\n lighting. Thoughts come and go as she goes through her session. She lets them pass by. By the time she’s done, she’s recharged and she’s got answers\n to issues she’s facing.

\n

\n

In some of the Bible psalms, you’d see the word, “selah.” It means “pause.” When choirs read or sang the psalm, they were meant to pause. Even in prayer,\n there’s a pause. And then after the “selah” usually comes God’s reply.

\n

\n

When you do yoga, you pause. And from that pause comes wisdom. You concentrate on nothing but breathing and feeling your muscles respond. Your mind quiets,\n and the most important things, what matters to you most, is now heard.

\n

\n

What did you hear? What are you going to do about it? Remember, stop waiting. You can only pause. Don’t stop. Go on!
